E-book: How to Succeed as a Freelance Translator
Implement the techniques revealed in this e-book, and you will be able to succeed in your career as a freelance translator.
Dear Freelance Translator,
You've clicked on this page because you are not quite satisfied with the development of your career. And you are looking for advise on how to improve your business and reach the goals you have set for yourself.
Starting up a business as a freelance translator can be a very frustrating process. You don't quite know how and where to find your first clients. Your office is not properly organized, and you spend long hours typing your fingers sore on low paid jobs with tight deadlines.
It feels like banging your head against a brick wall. You're not getting forwards in your career. You're stuck - wondering if you're ever going to make it.
It's frustrating and demotivating. I know - I've been there too!
But don't give up quite yet. You've clicked on this page to find help and advice. And you will also find it!
My e-book "How to Succeed as a Freelance Translator" shows you how you too can reach your goals and succeeded as a freelance translator!
Who am I to give advice, you might ask? Well, let me tell you a bit about myself.
My name is Anita Karlson Henssler. I am only 29 years old - and that I will continue to be for the next few years!
I don't have any translation education. I've studied computer science and I've worked in several areas of this industry. I've been a Unix administrator, done 1st level support, and programmed web pages.
I've always had a passion for languages and writing. I have several unfinished manuscripts in my drawer. So when I was asked to translate a software manual I didn't hesitate long.
After my son was born I decided to leave the computer business and work as a part time freelance translator. This gave me the possibility to work at home. And I can now decide myself how much or how little I want to work, and I can adjust my working hours to the activates of my son.
I started without any knowledge of the translation business. I've learned the hard way - from making mistakes. And I believe that the knowledge I accumulated during the startup phase of my freelance translation business can be very useful to others in the same situation.
You don't have to earn $ 80,000 per year, working evenings and weekends to succeed as a freelance translator.
What it takes to succeed is entirely up to you. After all, you are the one deciding what you want to achieve. When you've set your goal - it is all a question of hard and dedicated work towards that goal!
My e-book will help you focus on your business and finally be able to lead it forwards in your chosen direction.
You will learn:
What success is
How to set up a home office
How to present your business
How to find clients
How to set realistic goals and work towards them
How to stay motivated
Practical tricks of the trade
Reading Anita’s book made me realize the importance of respecting my personal interests and - more than anything – my health. As a translator, I think we all sometimes feel that it is very hard to make plans, even harder to fulfil them, but very easy to let work dominate your entire life situation. This book focuses on good advice on how you can succeed as a freelance translator without giving up too much on your own well-being. The writer’s concrete and realistic tips have inspired me to restructure and simplify my professional life and thanks to the book’s personal and comprehensible stile, you actually get the feeling that this advice is even possible to apply in real life!

So, what is success?
Success is such a difficult concept to define. An achievement I see as a success, you wouldn't necessarily see as a success.
If you want to succeed you have to know what success means to you. What do YOU have to achieve to succeed?
This e-book will show you the three stages to success. And you will find several articles about success as well as inspiring success quotes to send you on your way.
Setting up a home office
Working at home in a home office is not the easiest thing in the world. Sure it has advantages - but also disadvantages.
A home office might be your dream. But running a home office successfully demands quite a bit of discipline and organizing talent.
You have to:
Furnish your office, and if your like me, on a small budget.
Design the office in an ergonomic way to prevent any physical damages from working long hours.
Organize all your stuff so you know where you have everything
Not to mention the difficulties you have finding acceptance and respect for what you do.
Working at home does not mean that you sit in front of the TV all day and do nothing - like many people not working at home seems to think.
You never had your neighbor ringing the doorbell wanting to borrow sugar when you worked in a regular office, did you?
Present your business professionally
Put yourself in your potential clients' position. You're looking for a freelance translator and receive 70 applications.
How do you want to guarantee that YOU will receive that assignment?
Think about it!
You have to present yourself in a very original and professional way. Developing a professional appearance can only benefit you!
The e-book will show you how to:
Improve your resume to increase your chances of standing out in the curriculum vitae jungle.
Create an information brochure. Why shouldn't you have one? Every other kind of business has one.
How to find clients
You will learn to use these two powerful methods to find clients:
Let the clients find you by registering in directories of freelance translators
Market yourself directly to the translation agencies
After all, your business is depending on clients to survive. A freelance translator without clients is a freelancer without work.
Set realistic goals and work towards them
You've probably already heard how important it is to have a plan when you start and run a business. You have to know what you want to achieve and how you want to achieve it.
Are you setting realistic goals for your translation business?
If you don't have a defined goal to work towards you will never succeed no matter how well you do.
You will learn:
How to set goals and break them down in manageable tasks
How to make weekly and monthly plans for your business
The importance of praising yourself for your small achievements
Motivation
Working isolated in a home office, as many freelancers do, it is often difficult to keep the motivation on a high level over longer periods of time.
Loosing ones motivation is one of the main reasons for failing.
The e-book provides you with some of the best articles available on how to motivate yourself and stay motivated.
Practical tricks of the trade
Many freelance translators just starting in the business are insecure about how many practical things are done.
